Start it now

Updated: Jul 29, 2021

I thought of keeping this little blog for Sunday. When you say “I’ll do it from Monday”, you put yourself in a position to depend on external motivators. External motivation can last for some time but in reality you need something that keeps you going internally.

If you have a project in mind, an idea or a simple inspiration - do it now. There is no ’magical’ day, a special acknowledgement from someone or approval. This is all about you and your idea.

If you are passionate about something, think about happiness that you will experience from seeing your passion growing.

I noticed how many talented people are afraid to take the first step into something as they are afraid of failure, rejection or looking silly. At the end of the day, there is no success without a failure. Accepting this as a fact will help you to push yourself to start working on your passion.

Treat a failure as a part of your beautiful journey. Yes, we make mistakes or get mistaken. Yes, we fail or someone fails us. Whatever external thing stops you from happiness, get it out of your mind - just follow what you love. Follow and get it. If it takes time, take your time then (an advice from an impatient one lol).

I know I am not a perfect one to advise something like above. I have done silly things but I always prioritise to keep pushing on my passion over a fear of looking silly. It is a part of the journey. People who judge do have time to judge - just leave it to their discretion. Someone's approval or judgement should never be a milestone of your success - these are all external motivators. Grow and nurture your internal motivation that will push your passion further especially in the moments when you feel discouraged, tired, unfortunate or simply lost some motivation due to challenges (that will always be there!).

I dedicated this year to self-development, self-actualisation and growing some of my projects that have been popping up in my mind some time ago. Many things that I have done so far have started when I was not ready - it was just a moment of challenge. I thought if I don’t start it now, I will never have a chance to do it. I accepted this flowing feeling and decided to think what to do next after taking an action.

If someone with outstanding planning skills is reading this, they will definitely think that I am a silly one and my advice is horrible. How come you do something without measuring outcomes?! How come you can think of success without planning your next step?! How come you can think of starting long-term projects without even thinking of an exit strategy?!

I wouldn’t say I haven’t planned completely - I have a different way of planning. It is called vision. I have this vision - I know where I want to be and what I want to achieve. Some actions are planned, indeed, but the journey has never been planned in each detail. It would not be the journey then - just an agenda.

Journey is important as it is a discovery of yourself. You grow and become a better version of yourself when you are not ready for some of the things happening in your life - this is how we become mature. Think about it: why are the kids that left their parents’ home at an early age are more likely to succeed in life than those kids that were nurtured by their parents until mature age?

I permanently left home just after I turned 19 and was in and out on a few short journeys when I was 17 and 18. I believe this is the best decision I could make to be who I am right now: striving for new journeys, following my passions and developing myself to grow and be better. Problems that I had to solve on my own were hard ones but I am proud to count them now as my own little victories.

These problems made me understand that I should “Start it Now”. Whenever I have a passion and an idea and I believe in it, I am not seeking someone’s approval or judgement (I can ask an opinion of people close to me but that’s it). I just try to implement it as I go. If I fail, I will get up and keep going. But when (!) I succeed, I am cheering and growing my internal motivation - I set new goals and work towards achieving them.

Live it now.

Regards,

Ange xx
