Covid-19 Fitness Motivation

My fitness journey started back in 2016. I needed a new push in life after a quite difficult first part of that year. I had a number of challenges and I dealt with them on my own. I said back then: “if I manage to get rid of all this shit I managed to create earlier, I will dramatically change my life for better.”

Eventually my life has significantly improved (thanks to my legendary persistency) so I decided to keep my word and looked at ways to improve and become a better version of myself.

One of the pathways I chose for it is healthy lifestyle and exercising. I would never thought that it would become my lifetime journey.

It was a lot of rises and falls on its pathway - reaching goals and losing the achievements. Getting my ideal shape and losing it due to some stressful events in my life.

It took a while to understand that things start with the right MINDSET.

You may have the subscription at the best gym in Australia or anywhere you live, have the best fitness gear, subscribe to lots and lots fitness of magazines, exercise like crazy but you will never keep your results if you do not start your journey with the right MINDSET.

This story is more about keeping your results.

I had my ideal shape and lost it. I’ve been working on getting it back and it didn't really worked. When covid-19 hit this world, the government made a decision to shut the gyms. This is not helping.

Instead I turned this thread into an opportunity (think about your personal SWOT analysis - if you cannot think of one, I can make a new blog for it).

Say, I am the person who prefers to attend group classes because training with other people make me to commit to my personal goals. I feel peer pressure in a way. So, closure of fitness centres and gyms was clearly a thread.

If you are in business, you always chase up a way to turn your threads into opportunities and in order to make this happen, you need to think outside the box, first; set the right MINDSET up, second.

I decided to apply same approach.

Think outside the box.

I decided to find one through my fitness strength (SWOT). My strength is my love to running. I can run every morning, I like to move. Running is my own way of meditation in a way. When I run, I do not think about any external things and present at the very moment. Like in meditation, you relieve your thoughts from anything extra and enjoy the very present moment.

I started to commit to daily running. The area where I live is not super exciting and there are no fascinating coastal walks but there is one nice park that became ’surprisingly’ crowded at the start of lockdown (in a good way, people were exercising and followed social distancing at the same time).

I met one lovely woman with a little dog when I was running. She was getting out of her apartment around the same time I was passing her place. Eventually, we started to say ‘Hi’ to each other. Eventually we had our first conversation and got to know each other.

She is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. Somehow she started to make me to commit to my morning exercise habit. When we saw each other, we started to check if we were both at a right time and were teasing each other for being late. Eventually, her presence and willingness to say hi to this sweetest person made me to get up and go for my run. No excuses.

Set the right MINDSET

I like to set the goals up - it is important to set your goals and aim towards their achievement.

My goal was to get back to my shape a bit, loose weight by 3 kg for the during of the lockdown and stay toned. My goal was also exercise every morning targeting core and abs alongside with my running exercises.

The right MINDSET was getting me up even on cold mornings. Start with setting your inner motivation, aim for long-term perspective and enjoy the process of achieving your goals.

Another thing that people are missing and, as such, losing the game is focusing on results. Instead, set your MINDSET to enjoy the process.

Now fitness for me is not a way to space up more room for a Friday wine, extra meal or a cheating piece of chocolate. It is a lifestyle and personal choice.
